Refugee Right Network Pakistan (RRN-Pakistan), strongly urges the government of Pakistan to reconsider its decision regarding POR cards which is extended for one month only.
This haphazardly made decision which will amplify vulnerability and protection treats toward Afghan Refugee living in Pakistan and particularly when situation is already turbulent and there are many other threats we need to keep our land peaceful and respect international obligations. The decision is made without realizing the ground realities and is a violation of international humanitarian laws and commitments which discourage time bound support.
The government of Pakistan must realize that due to the severe weather conditions the repatriation process is suspended and this kind of decision will only increase harassment and deportation and future jeopardize the generous efforts made by the people and government of Pakistan in the last 40 years.
It also needs to be noticed that on one hand the registration of undocumented Afghan refugees is under process and on the other hand registered refugees are placed under undocumented category. This short term policies will never sever implications on the bilateral relationships of the two countries and people to people connection in future.
In the above mentioned circumstances Refugee Right Network Pakistan (RRN-Pakistan) appeals to the government of Pakistan to reconsider its decision and requests to extend the validity of POR cards till the formation of new the government to be sworn in July this year.
