The United Nations Human Rights Council, as the main body of the international human rights system, held its 60th session from 8 September to 8 October 2025 (17 Shahrivar to 16 Mehr 1404) in Geneva.
This session covered a wide-ranging agenda, addressing both country-specific and thematic issues, and provided a platform for dialogue, review, and decision-making on the most pressing contemporary human rights challenges.

In the country-specific domain, the Council examined numerous reports and updates from the High Commissioner for Human Rights and independent fact-finding and investigative mechanisms concerning the human rights situations in countries such as Myanmar, Venezuela, the Russian Federation, Afghanistan, Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria, Nicaragua, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (North Korea), Belarus, Ukraine, Libya, Yemen, and Cambodia.

In the thematic domain, a diverse range of global human rights topics were discussed, including discrimination and violence against intersex persons, gender mainstreaming in the human rights system, the impact of climate change on human rights, the rights of indigenous peoples and minorities, contemporary forms of slavery, the right to development, the rights of older persons, the rights to water and health, the effects of unilateral coercive measures, and the impact of private military and security companies.
These issues were addressed through interactive dialogues, thematic panel discussions, and expert reports.

During the session, the Council also reviewed and adopted reports from the fourth cycle of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for several countries, and conducted elections and appointments for members of advisory bodies and special procedure mandate holders.

The Association for the Protection of Refugee Women and Children (HAMI) also participated actively in this session by submitting three written statements and delivering four oral statements.
