The Association for Protection of Refugee Women and Children.HAMI has launched the “Mental Health and Enhancement of Individual and Social Capacity of Afghan Refugee Women, Children, and Vulnerable Groups” project in 2026 in the provinces of Khorasan Razavi, Semnan, and Qom, in cooperation with the Center for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants Affairs (CAFIA) of the Ministry of Interior and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The project is being implemented in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders with the aim of promoting mental health, strengthening individual and social resilience, and improving the quality of life of the target population. HAMI plans to provide educational, promotional, health, and empowerment services to more than 2,500 Afghan refugees and Iranian nationals living in the target areas.
Building on HAMI’s extensive experience in implementing social and psychosocial support programs for Afghan refugees, and based on needs assessments conducted in recent years, the project seeks to address some of the most pressing needs of refugee women, children, and other vulnerable groups. Within this framework, priority is given to promoting mental health, improving women’s health and hygiene, enhancing individual and social awareness, strengthening life skills, and expanding access to specialized counseling services.
According to the project plan, a range of training courses, specialized workshops, individual and group counseling services, mobile outreach educational programs in marginalized areas, pre-marital education, and awareness-raising activities on mental health and family health will be implemented throughout the project period. In addition, a database of the target population will be completed, while project monitoring, evaluation, and documentation activities will be carried out on a continuous basis.
The project has been designed to strengthen individual and social resilience, reduce social vulnerabilities, improve access to counseling services, and promote the mental health and well-being of refugee women, children, and families. It also seeks to ensure the delivery of effective and sustainable services to the target population by drawing on the capacities of government institutions, specialists, trainers, and community facilitators.
Throughout the implementation of the project, HAMI will regularly publish reports, news, and updates on project activities, achievements, and outcomes through its official website and social media platforms.
