International event on women, sustainable peace and security on the occasion of women’s day was held on 7th and 8th March with presence of heads and authorities of countries, political and cultural authorities, representatives of international organisation based in Iran, researchers and women’s right activists from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Lennon, Iraq, Syria and Islamic Republic of Iran.
Dr Ebtekar in the first day of the event said: holding this kind of event in the current situation of our region while the presence of terroristic group like ISIS and other extremists forces causes lots of insecurity, extensive abuses and serious problem for people especially women and children, is very crucial and provides more attention on women’s contribution to establish peace and security. She expressed hope that this meeting in Tehran become the beginning of a Strong women’s movement to advance peace and fight extremism and violence in the region and the world.
Fatemeh Ashrafi with emphasize on the objectives of this international event and the importance of the presence of empowered women in the the region, introduced different panels of the meeting which included: Women leadership, social and political actions and influence in the process of sustainable peace and security; Gender balance for women, peace promotion and sustainability of security; The role of women at the peace process, political approaches for preparation to access to sustainable peace; The effects of struggles and armed conflicts on women (education, health, individual and social violence); Women, preventing the emergence and intensification of conflicts (sustainable development, climate change, and the environment); Women as victims of crimes against humanity and war crimes, and the international criminal tribunals; Women in forced migration and asylum-seeking; legal-international frameworks on peace and security for women. HAMI’s co-founder also emphasized on formation a regional council in order to empower women in the region using their valuable expertise.
This event ended on the second day of the meeting with speech of Ms. Ebtekar and Mr. Zarif and also Ms. Ashrafi conclusion from the two-days conference and achievements of specialized panels.
